Desserts have been the exciting part of every meal for a very long time. In every culture, there is a tradition of serving something sweet after the main course to even out the tastes. It is scientifically proven that there is an extra space available in our belly after a full meal and that space is meant for dessert. One of the simplest tricks to find a real foodie is, when they don’t say no to the dessert.
My current favourite dessert or the flavour of the season is Blueberry Cheesecake and few encounters made me realise that finding a proper cheesecake is not an easy task. In this article I’ll be sharing about what is cheesecake, how to have it and especially where to find it in Guwahati!

Cheesecake is actually one of the most controversial desserts in the world. Nobody knows whether it is a tart, pie or a cake (definitely not as it is not being baked). It originated in Greece and roamed all over the world, where it got its own unique style. Few of the most popular forms are the New York style cheesecake and the Blueberry cheesecake (my favourite). Cheesecake is a sweet dessert consisting of one or more layers. The main, and thickest layer, consists of a mixture of soft, fresh cheese, eggs, and sugar. If there is a bottom layer, it often consists of a crust or base made from crushed cookies, graham crackers or pastry.
Previously, I was obsessed with Red velvet waffles and before that it was red velvet cupcakes. However, while watching Friends on repeat, I ended up watching the episode where Rachel & Chandler enjoy the cheesecake. Unconsciously, I developed this craving for Blueberry cheesecake as it brought back the aftertastes of cheesecakes that I had had before.

So, I ended up having my first cheesecake in Guwahati from Loyan’s. It was the mini cheesecakes and it really disappointed me both in taste and texture. This experience made me realise that many people are actually unaware about the real cheesecake. In my belief, food represents one’s culture and values. Through food, it is easy to understand one another. But when we consume something, unaware about its originality, it loses its whole purpose. So, I set on a self-assigned journey to discover the best cheesecake in Guwahati.
The best blueberry cheesecake I had was from Freza’s Bakery. They have two locations, one is in Hatigaon and the other one is in Zoo road. It was so perfect from the smell to texture to taste. The quantity was also fulfilling. The base had maintained its crispiness as well as the softness of the topping. I also tried their New York style Cheesecake, which was also fulfilling. Other than Freza’s, I’d prefer Patisserie Operaa’s blueberry cheesecake. All the ingredients can be tasted in the very first bite, especially the pressence of lemon which made it a blissful experience.

Before finalizing the best blueberry cheesecake, I had tasted from various places. One such place was Olive Garden. It is my favourite place out of all the Rooftop restaurants and every food item they provide is very delightful. However, I wasn’t quite pleased with their cheesecake because of the texture. It looked absolutely fine, the taste was perfect and the quantity was satisfying. The only drawback was the texture. It lacked the softness. The cheesecake lacks its texture when it is not consumed fresh as it is refrigerated and loses its moisture. So, next time when you’ll have a cheesecake, make sure you consume it as soon as you buy it.
If you feel like I’ve not included any of the other places that deserve to be in this list then please let me know and make sure to give these places a try.
